The international documentary “Voices from the Mines” is a collective project promoted by the European Mining Routes of Saint Barbara Federation – MINES.B.
Travelling across Europe, it gives voice to mining communities through the firsthand testimonies of former miners, brought to life through the fresh perspective of four young filmmakers from Slovakia, Italy, Spain, and Slovenia.
From the gold and silver mines of Banská Bystrica in Slovakia, portrayed by Lenka Pribojova, to the breathtaking cliffs of Masua in the Sulcis Iglesiente region of Sardinia, documented by Michele Cannas for the Fondazione Cammino Minerario di Santa Barbara. From the coal mining landscapes of Andorra – Sierra de Arcos in Spain, filmed by Raúl Belver Domínguez, to the historic mercury mine of Idrija in Slovenia — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — captured through the lens of Tara Bizjak Caruso.
“Voices from the Mines” is more than a documentary: it is a journey into memory, a dialogue between generations, and a mosaic of stories that reveal hardship, dignity, solidarity, and the deep bond between people and their land.
