The European Mining Routes of Santa Barbara Federation has officially started working on the audiovisual project involving four young videomakers selected from the Federation’s partners. The documentary, currently in development, will explore the mining memory of Europe through the voices of those who lived it: former miners from Italy, Spain, Slovenia, and Slovakia.
The project was inaugurated with a virtual kick-off meeting held on the 8th of May. The selected videomakers — each representing one of the Federation’s partner regions — will collaborate over the coming months to collect footage, conduct interviews, and document personal testimonies related to the mining heritage of their respective areas.
The four videomajers are: Tara Caruso Bizjak for the CUDHg Idrija (Slovenia), Michele Cannas for the Fondazione Cammino Minerario di Santa Barbara (Italy), Raül Belver Domínguez for the Comarca Andorra-Sierra de Arcos (Spain) and Lenka Pribojova for the Association Terra Montanae (Slovakia).
Beyond its creative and historical focus, the initiative also includes a strong intercultural dimension. The final stage of the project will take place in Slovakia, where all four videomakers will come together for a cultural exchange and to work collaboratively on the editing and post-production phase.
The completed documentary will be officially presented in October 2025 at the Museo Minero “Mwinas” in Andorra – Teruel (Spain).
This initiative is part of the Federation’s broader commitment to engaging young people in the preservation and reinterpretation of mining heritage, using contemporary media to give voice to stories that shaped the identity of entire regions.
The Federation looks forward to sharing the results of this unique collaboration in the months to come.
